Community Outreach

For more than 25 years, the Cornell Mathematics Department has been engaged in outreach and building solid partnerships with local teachers and schools.  Outreach activities fall into three broad categories:

Fall 2012 Math Explorer’s Club — Graduate students Laura Escobar and Daniel Wong implemented two of the modules in our Math Explorer’s Club collection during a six-week series of Saturday morning worshops open to students in grades 8–12. See coverage in the Cornell Chronicle.

February 2, 16 Spring 2013 Math Explorer’s Club — Graduate students Hung Tran, My Huynh, Margarita Amchislavska, and Kristen Pueschel will lead a six-week series of Saturday morning workshops open to students in grades 8–12, starting February 2, 16, and continuing March 2, 9, and April 13, 20. Volunteers Sought for Mathematics Outreach Opportunities

This semester there are numerous mathematics outreach opportunities for Cornell faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students to become involved in, including:

  • Running or facilitating the Math Explorer’s Club (Grades 8–12)
    appropriate for graduate and undergraduate students
  • Tutoring at local schools (Grades K–12)
    appropriate for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty
  • Assisting with coaching the Ithaca High School math team (Grades 9–12)
    appropriate for faculty and graduate students
  • Presenting at the Ithaca Sciencenter ShowTime! (Grades PK–5)
    appropriate for faculty and graduate students
  • Offering a program for 4-H Career Explorations (Ages 13–14)
    appropriate for graduate students
