The Joy of x

Professor Steven Strogatz collected his well-received New York Times columns about mathematics and added new material to create a book titled “The Joy of X: A Guided Tour of Math, From One to Infinity.” Senior Editor Beth Saulnier got the story behind the book, and Cornell Alumni Magazine offers an excerpt that begins with Strogatz pausing at the statue of Ezra Cornell on the Arts Quad and considering its curious inscription of the Founder’s lifespan in Roman numerals. | Cornell Alumni Magazine, September 2012
