MATH 619
Partial Differential Equations
(Fall 2003)

Instructor: Lars Wahlbin

Meeting Time & Room

Book: Lawrence C. Evans, Partial Differential Equations, AMS 1998.

This course is naturally continued with MATH 620 for a well-rounded introduction to partial differential equations.

In 619, we shall first treat the classical Laplace, heat and wave equations in some detail. Thereafter, we shall do a "grab-bag" of selected topics (some nonlinear first order equations, transform methods, the Cauchy-Kovalevskaya theorem...). A major part will be the theory of Sobolev spaces, which, however, will only be applied in earnest in the beginning of 620.
