Math 651 — Spring 2002 Algebraic Topology

Instructor: Allen Hatcher
Time: MWF 2:30-3:20
Room: Malott 203

This is the basic introductory course in algebraic topology. About half the semester will be devoted to fundamental groups and covering spaces, and the other half to homology theory. The text will be my book Algebraic Topology, mainly Chapters 1 and 2. This is available online at pi.math.cornell.edu/~hatcher, if you would like to look and see more precisely what will be covered. Prerequisites for the course are undergraduate algebra and point-set topology.
