This talk will show how the notion of a fast generating set for a group of homeomorphisms of the interval can be used to construct a rich collection of elementary amenable subgroups of Richard Thompson's group $F$. Specifically, it will be shown that there are finitely generated subgroups $G_\xi$ of $F$ for each $\xi < \epsilon_0$ such that $G_\xi$ embeds into $G_\eta$ if and only if $\xi \leq \eta$. The first part of this talk will outline the construction whereas the second part will give some of the details.
