In this talk, we give an introduction to vertex-weighted oriented graphs. We associate it with a set of monomials and the toric ring associated with those monomials. We find a generating set for the defining ideals for certain classes of graphs which depends on the combinatorial structure and weights of the graph. We then discuss the normality of polytopes associated with those monomials.
