Origamis in outer space

Origamis are purely combinatorial objects which define finite degree coverings of the torus together with a natural translation structure. Such a square tiled translation surface defines an embedding of the Poincare-upper half plane into Teichmüller space Tg,n; the image in moduli space Mg,n is a Teichmüller curve. They have been intensively studied in the last years. We define a similar construction in Culler–Vogtmann outer space and use it in order to obtain new insights into the corresponding Teichmüller curves.
