Math 4740: Course Project

The final draft is due Friday April 26 by the beginning of class.

Please **staple** in this order:
  1. the final draft of your project
  2. the first draft with my/Shisen's comments on it
  3. the paper you are reviewing.

The first draft was scored in the form A | B C D where A,B,C,D are numbers between 0 and 5. They correspond to the criteria at the bottom of this page. The B,C,D scores are provisional and represent what you would get if this was your final draft. Your final project score will be A+B+C+D+E (out of 25), where B,C,D,E are scores for your final draft according to the criteria at the bottom of the page.

The goal of the course project is to give you an opportunity to explore applications of stochastic processes in a field you love (possibly your major). It will also give you a sense of what it's like to be down in the trenches reading and writing scientific literature.

Find an article in a peer-reviewed journal in your area of interest which uses a stochastic process as a model for some "real-life" behavior. Write a review giving a summary and critique of the approach used in the article. Please address the following questions:

Here are three examples of good projects from last year's class:

Here are some guidelines on writing and submitting your review:

Feel free to come see me with any questions that may arise at any stage of this project.
