Announcements

[5 Nov 2020] The last test is on Sunday, and the mechanics will be about the same as the first test: you have 24 hours to start it (about), and 2 hours to complete it. The test will focus on material we have done since the last test, although it will likely have one problem on material from earlier in the course. The test will cover up through and including SVD's, but will not cover Jordan canonical form (that is the content of the last 2 problems of HW11). Prof. Stillman will have office hours on Friday evening and Saturday, times to be announced still. There will be some practice problems available too, probably by Monday.

[5 Nov 2020] HW11 has been posted, problems 1-6 are due Friday, Dec 11 at midnight, and problems 7-8 are due Wed, Dec 16 at midnight. Prof. Stillman's office hours will be on Wednesday, 4:15 - 5:15 pm, and 9 - 10 pm (note slightly different afternoon time!).

[25 Nov 2020] HW10 has been posted, it is due Friday night, Dec 4 (about midnight). Wait to look at it until after Thanksgiving! Hoave a great break! Prof. Stillman's office hours will be on Wednesday, usual time (not on Monday).

[15 Nov 2020] Office hours for this coming week, before the second test: Stillman: review session 2:30 - 3:30 Tuesday (will be recorded), Friday: 3 - 4:30 pm, Saturday night 9 - 10 pm. Joseph: Sunday, 2 - 4 pm. The second test covers up through Lecture 29 (and mostly starting at lecture 18, although as the material is cumulative, previous material will likely be on the test). Practice problems will be available soon (tonight or tomorrow).

[1 Nov 2020] The second and third tests are now on the syllabus. The second test is during the semi-final period, at 9:30 am - 12:00 pm on Monday, Nov 23. The third will be similar in mechanics to the first: you will have approximately 24 hours on Sunday, Dec 13, in which to take the test, and the test will be about the same length as the first one.

[21 Oct 2020] The next homework has been released. It is slightly longer than a single homework, and so is really being considered 2 homeworks, HW6 and HW7 combined. Both are due together on October 30. However, please start working this week on it!

[15 Oct 2020] Stillman's office hours this week before the first test on Sunday have been posted in an announcement on canvas. Here they are: Friday 12 - 1pm (review of what we have covered, will be recorded, placed on canvas zoom), Friday 3:30 - 4:30 pm, Friday evening (probably 8 - 9 pm, possibly 9-10pm, check back about that), and Saturday, 3-4 pm. These will all be where you ask me questions about the practice problems, the HW, and the material for the first test. They will not be recorded.

[11 Oct 2020] Practice problems for first exam are now available.

[4 Oct 2020] The grading scheme, and date of first mini exam has been determined (Sunday, October 18). See the Gradings and Exams page

[24 Sep 2020] hw4 has been posted.

[13 Sep 2020] Prof. Stillman's office hours have changed to Monday's 3:45 - 4:45 pm, 9 - 10 pm via zoom. latex source for hw2 is now available (via lectures page here, or in Files on canvas).

[25 Aug 2020] Welcome! The first class meeting is Wednesday, Sep 2, 9:10 - 10:00 am, online. Zoom links will be on canvas. Video and notes for each class will be available soon after the class, once they are ready. I'm looking forward to meeting you all!
