For the following hands, assume that your partner has opened 1. Remember to reevaluate your hand now that you've found a fit.
Pass. You need 6 points to respond to your partner's opening bid..
Raise to 2. Much better.
Raise to 2, showing 6-10 points and 3 hearts. If your partner invites game by bidding 3, you will gladly raise to 4.
Bid 3, a limit raise. Partner will bid game with a few extra points.
Bid 3 again. With 4-card support for your partner's hearts, you may count 5 points for the void.
Bid 3. This beautiful 10-point hand is worth a limit raise.
Bid 2. Some 10-point hands only deserve a single raise.
Bid 4, a typical preemptive raise.
4 again. I wish I had been dealt this hand so that I could make this bid.
Bid 4, although 3 would also be reasonable.
Bid 2, and then raise to 4 (a delayed raise). An immediate bid of 4 would be completely wrong.
This lovely hand deserves a delayed raise to game. Bid 2, and then raise to 4.
Bid 2, and then raise to 4. This hand is too good for a limit raise.
Bid 3. Confine yourself to a limit raise when you hold a mediocre 12 points.
