Formal Writing Assignment #2, due 2/11 in class:

Write a 2-3 page essay explaining what is straight on a sphere to a friend who has only studied high school geometry. Convince your friend that your claims match the intuitive idea of straight. Be sure to explain why other lines (such as latitude lines) are not straight. Use any of the evidence from class, from your informal writings, or from Experiencing Geometry. Be careful not to assume that your friend has any particular scientific or mathematical knowledge (beyond basic high school geometry).
