MATH 1910 - Calculus for Engineers
Spring 2010

Text: Thomas, Weir, Haas, & Giordano, Thomas' Calculus (Edition: 11) Addison-Wesley, 2005. ISBN: 0-321-18558-7.

Examinations: There will be three evening prelims and a final exam. Calculators, notes and books are not allowed at the exams. Students with special needs or conflicts should contact the instructor well in advance of the exams (at least two weeks). The schedule for the examinations is the following (the three prelims are at 7:30 pm):

Homework: There will usually be one problem set each week, which will be due on the Thursday TA section. The problems will NOT be taken from the textbook, but they will be very similar to the them. Students may work alone or in groups on the homework, but the solutions you hand in should be your own write-up. No late homework will be accepted unless arrangements have been made in advance for exceptional situations.

In addition to the problem set, there is a list of suggested problems from the book for each part of the material, which can be found in the course schedule. These problems correspond to the homework problems from last semester, and the solutions to them are available at http://www.math.cornell.edu/~web1910. We strongly encourage you to try to solve these problems on a weekly basis (without looking at the solutions). Practicing the material as you learn it is the best way to prepare for the prelims in this course. In addition, solving the suggested problems will help you with the homework.

Grading: Total of 550 points.

Academic Integrity: Each student in this course is expected to abide by the Cornell University Code of Academic Integrity. In this course, as stated above, students may work in groups on the homework, but the solutions you hand in should be your own write-up.
