Math 2240, Spring 2017, Theoretical Linear Algebra and Calculus

Course description: This course, together with its predecessor Math 2230, form an advanced and theoretical introduction to linear algebra and to differential calculus of several variable functions. This part of the course will cover integration, differential forms, and the generalized Stokes Theorem. As with 2230, this course involves a significant workload (15+ hours per week outside lecture).

Schedule: This is a short semester, so we'll have to go briskly. A tentative outline (to be updated as necessary) is here.

Homework: Homework assignments will be posted weekly and due a week later. They will be found here.

Exams: The first prelim will be in class; the second will be take-home. The first prelim is March 7, 2017. The second prelim will be handed out on April 20, 2017. The final exam will be held from 2pm to 4:30pm, Wednesday May 17. Each exam is worth one quarter of your grade, with homework and recitation quizzes forming the remainder.

Academic Integrity: Each student in this course is expected to abide by the Cornell University Code of Academic Integrity. In this course, students may work alone or in groups on the homework, but are to turn in all homework individually.

Extra Study: The Math Support Center is located in 256 Malott. The Malott office is open weekdays from 10 to 4:30 and Sundays from 7:30-10pm. On Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30-9:30pm, there are walk-in hours in room 3331 at the Tatkon Center in Balch Hall.
