What we covered so far & Problem sets

Lectures: TR 2:55-4:10, Malott 203

Lecturer: Karola Mészáros

Lecturer office hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:10-5, Malott Hall 440

Teaching assistant: Balázs Elek

Topic: We will explore the world of n-dimensional polytopes in this class. We will learn both about general (combinatorial) properties of and techniques for handling polytopes, as well as look at many interesting examples of them. Time permitting we will also learn about exciting results regarding hyperplane arrangements.

Textbook: There is no required textbook. Most everything we will do is contained in

G. Ziegler. Lectures on polytopes. (hard copy on reserve in the library)

M. Beck, S. Robins. Computing the continuous discretely (available as ebook, hard copy on reserve in the library)

E. Swartz. From polytopes to enumeration

R. Stanley. An introduction to hyperplane arrangements.
