The picture represents two worms butting heads, or perhaps kissing.

Now an animated 1-D universe is equivalent to a static 2-D universe. That is to say, motion in time now corresponds to the differences in horizontal slices as one moves vertically. Thus, we can represent time with an added dimension.

Is time THE fourth dimension? Well, our example above suggested we can view 2-D space as either 2-D space or as 1-D space with an added dimension for time. Similarly we can ask, might there be a forth dimension which is separate from time?

It seems that whenever we add a dimension to represent time, we can view that added dimension as a spacial dimension, and ask whether it makes sense to consider the new space changing with time.

Can't we just continue this, and in fact never refer to time but rather just keep adding spacial dimensions? If so, what is the best way to describe 4 dimensional space, or n dimensional space, for that matter?
