New Stochastic Programming Approaches for Radiation Therapy Planning.
Michael Ferris (CS, Wisconsin)

Optimization tools are effective in many application areas. Over the past decade, optimization has been used extensively in the field of radiation therapy. We outline some of the recent developments that have had some impact in this area, and describe other techniques that have promise for future application. Uncertainty is prevalent in many of these problems and the field of stochastic programming has grown remarkably over the past two decades. We describe some specific advances that are relevant to radiation therapy planning, and outline an algorithm that implements some of these ideas.
