MATH 732: Seminar in Algebra (Spring 2004)

Instructor: Dan Barbasch

Meeting Time & Room

Short course desacription: I aim to cover basic results about automorphic forms from the view point of representation theory of Lie groups.

Topics:

  • Review of automorphic forms from the classical viewpoint
  • Congruence subgroups and Hecke operators
  • Repreesentation theory of GL(2, F) where F is a local field,
  • Automorphic forms as representations of GL(2) over the adeles
  • Decomposition of L2(G/\Gamma) and the Selberg trace formula

I will tailor these and further topics based on the interest and background of the audience.
