Undergraduate Grader Positions

Title: Undergraduate Grader
Hours: no less than 5 hours per week; varies by course, enrollment, and number of sections assigned

The Mathematics Department seeks graders for lower-level MATH courses, particularly

Graders may also be needed for one or more courses in the engineering calculus sequence (MATH 1910-1920-2930-2940), but this is less certain. (See the undergraduate course assistant positions if you are interested in grading Calculus I or Calculus II.)

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Comprehensive, precise grading of weekly assignments.
  • Accurate record keeping.
  • Prompt return of assignments to the course instructor.

Compensation

The undergraduate positions of tutor, course assistant, and grader follow a two-tier pay system. New hires are paid $8.50/hour. After two semesters of employment for the Mathematics Department (not necessarily consecutive or in the same position), the pay rate increases to $9.00/hour.

Hiring Procedure

We begin reviewing applications and making offers for the fall semester in early March prior to Summer Session, and for the spring semester we begin to review applications in mid November prior to Winter Session.   When you submit your application it remains in the system until you graduate.  You are welcome to update or reapply for a future semester at any time by simply logging in, updating your application, and resubmitting it.  Please make sure to enter the semester for which you are applying.  To receive early consideration it is important to update and submit your application by early March for the fall semester or mid November for the spring semester.

If you receive an offer (by e-mail), respond as soon as possible to accept (or decline). Jobs are in demand and fill quickly. When a position opens up, we hire the first qualified applicant we can reach. Therefore, it is imperative that you keep your contact information current and check your email regularly.

Assignments are made one semester at a time. We can not guarantee continuous employment because we have fewer openings in the spring than in the fall.
