Heegaard Floer homology is an invariant for low-dimensional manifolds defined using methods from symplectic geometry. After sketching the construction, my talk will focus on the algebraic structures underlying Heegaard Floer homology, which bring with them both computational techniques and a conceptual framework. This talk will describe joint work with Zoltan Szabo, and also joint work with Robert Lipshitz and Dylan Thurston.
