Positroids are a combinatorial concept that have found applications in a number of areas of math, some through the notion of positroid varieties. I will give a basic talk defining and introducing positroids, including where the name comes from, and discuss the connections between several different but mostly equivalent ways of representing them. I will also spend a little time talking about their relationship to positroid varieties.
