Links, link detection, and Khovanov homology

Thursday, February 23, 2023 - 4:00pm
Malott 532 (Lounge)

Links are an important object of study in the field of low-dimensional topology. One way to describe a link is by drawing a picture of a link. This raises a natural question which is when are two different pictures really representing the same link? In this talk we will look some answers to these questions using the computable tool of Khovanov homology and sketch a proof of the fact that Khovanov homology helps answer this question for the link $T(2,6)$.

Refreshments will be served at 3:30 PM.
