Learning Green's Functions and Computing with Randomized Matrix Algorithms

I'll discuss an algorithm for approximating the Green's function of a simple but unknown hyperbolic PDE, assuming one only has access to solution/right-hand-side function pairs. Then I'll relate this to the problem of approximating the eigenspaces of a symmetric matrix, assuming one only has access to matrix-vector products. There will be a fair amount of linear algebra :-)
