Epistemic scenarios do not necessarily specify every single condition, whereas their traditional representation as a model captures only complete descriptions. Syntactic Epistemic Logic, SEL, suggests a way out of this predicament by viewing an epistemic situation as a set of syntactic conditions rather than as a model. SEL can handle partial descriptions which extends the scope of applications, e.g., in Epistemic Game Theory. In addition, SEL seals the conceptual and technical gap, identified by R.Aumann, between the syntactic character of game descriptions and the semantic method of analyzing games.
