What’s worse than “the proof is left as an exercise to the reader”? Trying to then find the proof from Wikipedia. But, Wikipedia & the Internet in general is a useful tool for trying to understand math at a general level. So using the Conway-Norton Conjecture (known also as “Monstrous Moonshine”) as an example, we consider how one could make sense of a Wikipedia math article, with only the understanding of a humble undergraduate.
