I will talk about the unique separable complete metric space that is universal and homogeneous (in the appropriate senses). The space was described by Urysohn in 1924. I will explain how it connects, through recent research, with Fraisse constructions in Model Theory, universal minimal flows in Topological Dynamics, and Ramsey theorems in Combinatorics.
